KEEPING YOU INFORMED - Negotiations Update

CFT President Jeff Frietas and nearly 400 teachers, nurses, AFSCME members, parents, students, family, and community members came together for Tuesday night’s YOUnity Rally prior to the School Board meeting. The YOUnity Rally was an important display of Union power and YOUnity that directly impacted the negotiations between ABCFT and ABCUSD the following day.

On Thursday, as a part of the ratification process, the ABCFT Executive Board voted to approve the  2021-2022 salary compensation tentative agreement (TA) to be taken to the Rep Council.

The ABCFT Executive Board approved to end the nine-day work to rule campaign effective

Friday, February 18, 2022.

So what are the next steps?

Tentative Agreement Ratification Timeline:

On Tuesday, February 22nd there will be a Rep Council meeting to approve to take the 2021-2022 salary compensation tentative agreement out for a ratification vote.

If the TA is approved to move to a ratification vote by the Site Reps there will be a virtual general membership meeting on Thursday, February 24th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

ABCFT union members will receive a ratification ballot in their work email for the 2021-2022 salary compensation tentative agreement. The online vote will take place from Thursday, February 24th at 6:00 p.m. to Monday, February 28th at 4:00 p.m.

Thank you to all the ABCFT members who participated in the YOUnity Work to Rule Campaign and Rally. After four months of negotiations, we were finally able to reach a tentative agreement. Thank YOU again for flexing your YOUnion power!

ABCFT PRESIDENT’S REPORT - Ray Gaer

Communication is a union’s most important tool for advocating for its members at the bargaining table. Every conversation with the membership is focused on the end result of negotiating for the future prosperity and wellbeing of  ABCFT members. This weekly report aims to keep the membership informed about issues that impact their working/learning conditions and their mental well-being. Together we make the YOUnion.

“Raise our pay! Raise our pay! Raise our pay! - The loudest chant of the Rally night.

I’m going to make it quick but that shouldn’t take away from the importance of my message this week. My sincere thanks to the ABCFT leadership team, the negotiating team, the ABCFT Site Reps, and ALL the Teachers and Nurses that worked tirelessly the last two weeks. Our combined YOUnion efforts pulled together a major work to rule campaign,  a media blitz, a parent flyer campaign, a YOUnity rally at the district office, and a parade of teachers who eloquently and passionately spoke directly to ABC School Board members. If you are feeling exhausted right now it is TOTALLY understandable!

Right now we are working on an annotated version of the Tentative Agreement to provide as much supporting background information as possible for the various pieces in the agreement. Some of you have asked about the process and the delays in not knowing the exact details of the agreement. ABCFT follows a ratification process that is outlined in our guiding documents so that our tentative agreements are legally binding. We apologize for the delays but we are moving forward with our timeline as quickly as possible. On Tuesday, the ABCFT Representative Council will decide in a vote if the tentative agreement will go out to the membership for a final ratification vote. YOU, ABCFT members are the ultimate decision-makers and for this reason, we are will be sharing revised salary schedules, an annotated TA, and FAQ documents that help members understand the language of the 2021- 2022 salary compensation tentative agreement.

In the meantime, we all have a three-day weekend to regroup. The past six weeks have been incredibly exhausting but ABCFT members have shown that YOUnity is a core value of our organization.

Each day of the campaign, I was sending out early morning RALLY texts to the ABCFT Leadership team but I think my last one summed up my feelings about the rally and the school board meeting. —---------------->
